BlacKat Publishing http://www-personal.umich.edu/~ewiggin/index.html was founded as a sole proprietorship in 1999 to provide a home for children's books that might not otherwise be produced. We are fiercely dedicated to promoting literacy and believe that this must start with parents reading to children. Therefore, our editorial focus is on providing highly literate materials that appeal to parents as well as children. Books are lovingly constructed in extremely small press runs, hand-bound, and distributed directly to customers. BlacKat currently produces only twenty-five to fifty copies of each title, putting these books into the same class of limited-edition art objects as a lithographic or photographic print.
There are several reasons for such limited printings. First, this meets current demand for the stories BlacKat Publishing produces. Additionally, our labor-intensive production process makes large printings impractical. It also keeps the supply small, making your copy more valuable. Finally, while we hope to see BlacKat grow, there are no immediate plans or prospects for expansion. This means that new titles will be released as they are ready, and out of print titles will be reprinted if demand is sufficient, until customer demand requires changing this strategy for one which delivers a larger number of commercially produced copies.
